The electric power circuit is the farthest from being nailed down and
may wind up being several experiments. Tesla Turbine "Disk Turbine" Vane
turbine, Stirling heat engine, www.infiniacorp.com is way ahead of us. I
have my name on the list for a Stirling Gen pac there. Acoustic heat engine,
or probably the Scroll air conditioning compressor turned pump.
The turbines and Scroll pump are messy because of all the plumbing and
so much heat to contend with the turbine. The scroll can be at much lower
safer temps and is mass produced at a reasonable price so that is why I am
leaning in that direction.
A stirling that could make decent power with a 300deg.F temp differential
would be ideal, Just use the oil to heat one end of it.
Power loop plan as of 3/3/08
A small hydraulic pump driven by electric motor pumps liquid refrigerant
into a heat exchanger located in the oil reservoir tank which flashes the
refrigerant into gas and is expanded through the scroll pump "motor" which
is directly connected to the generator. From the scroll to a large condenser
where the gas is cooled back to a refrigerant liquid. The heat taken from
this loop can be used for domestic heating or be stored for winter use. This
condenser must be situated so that gravity takes the liquid to the lowest
point in the condenser where the hydraulic pump is located and the cycle
restarted.
Many valves, sensors and electronics will need to be incorporated in
this system to make it operate automatically and for safety concerns. I am
not sure how to lube the scroll : Yet another pump may be necessary to
pump oil to the scroll as has been done in refrigeration systems.
For the generator probably a permanent magnet alternator like what is
used in the newer wind generators and a sine wave inverter. This is some
time off as we need to get our heat corralled first, but room for plenty
more thought here.
